On November 8th, New Yorkers voted to pass the Clean Water, Clean Air, & Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022, which will now move forward to be implemented in the coming years.
What exactly is included The Bond Act? The State Legislature said the measure was passed to authorize a Bond Act in the amount of $4.2B for the purpose of making environmental improvements that preserve, enhance, and restore New York’s natural resources and reduce the impact of climate change by funding capital projects, including:
like rehabilitating coasts & bringing back shorelines
like creating fish hatcheries, protecting farmland, & building parks
like building clean & efficient energy systems that reduce pollution, green buildings, restoring forests & habitats, and upgrades to community gardens & cooling centers
like better drinking water systems, sewer expansions, septic replacements, & soil health programs
Where Prop 1 appears on your ballot depends on which county you live in. There are a few counties that will show it on the front page at the bottom, but most New York ballot measures are placed on the back of your ballot. So be on the lookout for the Bond Act measure and don’t forget to FLIP YOUR BALLOT when you vote in November!
